How to save for your trip?

£$£$£$

Right guys so how to save ? well in theory its easy as 1,2,3 save a little bit every so often… so if its that easy why do some people find it so hard? Im going to tell you my saving tips and ideas that i found worked for me the last time i went travelling and some that im doing this time for my next trip… that’s right im officially saving up for my next big adventure.

So the first thing you want to do when saving is decide on the amount you need to save then the date it needs to be saved for, for me i know the amount and i know i want to have that amount by December to book things, remember it its easy to go over that once you really get going so if your not the best at saving and your just guessing a budget make it a little bit lower and then when you do over that amount you will feel better and hopefully it will make you want to save more.

Check out how my saving is going so far here.

I have 3 main ways of saving and i use these all the time time no matter what im saving up for:

  1. Tin open money box
  2. bank saving goals
  3. sell, sell, sell

1.Right so the very first thing you want to do is go to your local pound shop/world and get a huge tin open only money box! this way you cant get into it and when you want to its a struggle, in this i put every single 1p, 2p and 5p i get in change no matter what they do add up and if your not counting all the time they add up fast.

Another way to save in your money box is by saving a set coin every time you get one as change or in your purse above 50p so this can be 50p, £1 or £2 coins ill start doing this a bit closer to the time as i need buses to get around and these are the coins i need to pay my bus fair, but once my purse gets too full of 20p and 10p ill fill my tin up with them too. when ever you can spare your change put it in the tin!!!

2.Second is saving in the bank now this is notes all above £5, get yourself a hight interest savings account with your bank and get the online banking thing going hear you can set goals to save and tells you how much you have left to save with the money you keep putting in and how long it would take you to get to your goal if you put say £20 a week away. this is a brill thing as this way you know if you need to try and save more to get to your goal in time rather than getting a month away and realising you wont have the funds.

Work out what you can live off and what has to come out of your bank every month and then set aside the rest from your wages as a direct debit to your saving account this way you will never miss it.

3.The final thing i always do and that’s sell i sell things i don’t need or use any more and what ever i make from in goes in my money box, for my last trip i sold my prom dress i loved it but going travelling meant more to me and i made £250 so it really dose work and adds up quick.

  • If you don’t need your car sell it! not only will you get the money from the car you’ll be saving monthly payments to the insurance if you do need it for work wait till last minute to do this.
  • Get rid of your contract phone and go to pay as you go, this way you cant go over and you can get a cheaper price plan (this works better for travelling too)
  • Get rid of monthly or weekly direct debits that you don’t really need like monthly subscriptions to magazines, music players, tv, etc…

REMEMBER: YOUR STILL LIVING WHILST YOUR SAVING SO DON’T SAVE EVERY PENNY AND BE BOARD YOU WILL END UP SPLURGING WAY TOO MUCH ONCE A MONTH TREAT YOURSELF!  BUY THINGS, BUT BUY THINGS YOU NEED FOR YOUR TRIP OR SAVE UP YOUR SPLURGE MONEY AND HAVE A DAY TRIP/WEEKEND AWAY TO KEEP THEM ITCHY FEET AT BAY!!!
