Sleeping on a train Mossel Bay Day 7

Today was my first full day on the Garden Route staying in MosselBay at the Santos Express. This is an old train where you can stay it is a baz bus stop and definitely worth a night or 2 just for the amazing view.

I decided on a single room rather than a dorm for R205 pn and this included free breakfast in pounds it was £9 a night rather than £7 for a dorm with no breakfast and its worth the extra £2 believe me, i woke up to a sea view and listened to the crashing waves all night. I’ve stayed in a lot of places with ‘beach views’ where you have to look round the corner or something like that this was literally as i lay down i could see the sea and the beach.

Now there are a few hikes to do in Mossel Bay but nothing amazing and for this reason a lot of people leave it out and miss the chance of a picture perfect view to wake up to. I Decided to spend my first full day at a game reserve not too far from Mossel bay called Botlierskop, i emailed the people there and asked if they would put together a full day itinerary for me so that the cost of transport would be worth it and they were so helpful and kind and sent me back this:

  • Cat Walk at Zorgfontein – 08:00am – R710
  •      Transport arranged by them through the game reserve – R250
  • Horse back safari – 10:00 – 11:00 – R310
  • Massage treatment 11:30 – 12:30 – Combo price with game drive at R850
  • Lunch at the restaurant until 2pm at my own cost
  • 3 hour game drive safari 2:00 – 5:00 – Combo Price R850
  • Total price for the day = R2,120 Pluss taxi to and from hostel R240 each way

This was the best day by far ticking so much off my bucket list in one day alone and seeing 4 of the big 5 everyone there were really nice and helpful sorting things out and making sure everything ran on track i would highly recommend doing this as a full day trip you feel like your one of the rich people staying there. it is worth the small splurge of £80 for a full day in total including all transport and food. especially when some game drives starts at £80 not for a full day of fun and relaxation. I now love animals and would never pay a zoo price to see them behind bars or glass again knowing how close ive been here to them in the wild.
